Travel Funding for C & I Doc Students
For the past several years, the Department of Curriculum and Instruction has provided a small amount of travel support to students who give presentations at professional conferences. We are pleased to announce that we will continue offering support this year. Funds are limited and can run out; applying for support does not guarantee funding. This academic year, we will offer funds in the fall and spring semesters, with separate applications for
Students should not file a request until they know that their proposal has been accepted by the conference. Please note that you must be a presenter and not simply an author on the paper.

Teaching Assistant/GA Position with Early Outreach Program
The Early Outreach Program was created in 1981 as the pre-college, academic pipeline program to the University of Illinois at Chicago Urban Health Program. From this position, the Early Outreach Program was among the first on the UIC campus to recognize the opportunity for educational enrichment in the core content areas of reading, math, and science, and its specific application to health sciences preparation and urban health equity.
The program’s goal is to ensure the students’ ability to matriculate into high school, university, and postgraduate health science programs of their choice, so that they can ultimately attain careers in the health professions in our changing and global society.

OSS Graduate Assistant Position

Dr. Shelby Cosner will be hiring up to three 1/2-time graduate assistants beginning in September for the start of October with two of the positions running through December 2017 and one of the positions running through August 2016. The first two positions are GA positions that will require a range of duties including locating, annotating and reviewing literature; locating and storing a variety of principal preparation and development program materials; and a range of other duties as assigned by Dr. Cosner. The third position (running through end of summer 2017) will involve extensive library and qualitative field research including participant interviews, most of which will be conducted in schools with principals and teachers.

Fall 2016 Babysitting Position
Looking for a reliable late afternoon – early evening weeknight babysitter starting in the fall/September 2016 for an 8 and 12 year old in the South Loop neighborhood. Hours would be 3:30 to 7:30 on Mondays through Thursdays (can be flexible on some days depending on your school schedule). Literacy Volunteer Opportunity
Little Village READS is a new literacy initiative that pairs reading tutors with 1st through 3rd grade students in the Little Village Community. All our students have been referred by their teachers for extra help outside the classroom, and they meet with tutors two days a week to work on building their reading skills. Tutors engage students in free reading, interactive games, and fun literacy activities.
