Cultivate Potential: Study ranks UIC top in state for return-on-investment

When it comes to giving students from traditionally underserved backgrounds the opportunity to receive a high-quality education, UIC does it best. A study released by the Illinois Education Research Council has found UIC yields the best results for degree completion, graduation and cost of education.

Inspire Discovery: UIC recognizes top researchers and academics as "Researchers of the Year"

The 2018 Researchers of the Year list includes a professor who elevated the study of disabilities, a chemist who is creating a new class of drugs for people with chronic illnesses and an educational researcher leading the charge to help middle school students improve their math and science learning.

Foster Success: Shark Tank investors make a deal with UIC student

Three sharks from the ABC TV show Shark Tank took the bait and gave UIC sophomore Martin Dimitrov a $150,000 investment in exchange for 30 percent equity in his company SnapClips, a product he developed while he was in high school.

Serve Others: UIC Dentistry students teach kids about oral hygiene

Students from St. Malachy visited the College of Dentistry for Give Kids a Smile Day, where dentistry students gave free examinations and taught the kids how to take care of their teeth. The goal of the day was to help children from lower-income neighborhoods learn about preventative care and decrease their risk for developing expensive and painful oral problems.

Access Excellence: Cure Violence rises to No. 10 spot on list of top global NGO's

Cure Violence has reduced violence in many high-risk communities by as much as 70 percent. Its unique model is being implemented in countries around the world, from its own backyard in Chicago to the embattled streets of Syria.

At the beginning of April all alumni will receive a survey asking for thoughts and ideas on how the UIC Alumni Association (UICAA) can best serve you, and bring your strong community of alumni together to accomplish common goals.  Hear from UICAA founding board member Bill Merchantz BS '79 and update your information before the end of March to ensure you receive the survey!

Jane Addams College of Social Work receives endowed scholarship for students committed to social justice

The Professor James P. Gleeson Scholarship Fund was established to help students embark on a degree in social work. A generous pledge from Gleeson's MSW '84, PhD '84 longtime friend and UIC colleague, Jim Horan MSW '79, endowed the scholarship to ensure it benefits students in perpetuity.

Progress to goal of $750M is $319M — we're already 43 percent there!

UIC's alumni and friends have already made a tremendous impact in IGNITE: The Campaign for UIC.  Since July 1, 2018 you have helped us create 14 new scholarship funds, 4 new professorships and raised more than $11.3 million in new research dollars.
