Singing is good for you, says Dr. H. Steven Sims, director of the Chicago Institute for Voice Care and associate professor of otolaryngology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. Singing during the holiday season can reduce levels of stress hormones, and singing in a group can help fight depression. Voice care is important, especially over the winter, says Sims. Keeping hydrated, wearing a scarf, and resting the voice can help prevent vocal injury.
