This week kicks off National Small Business Week. UIC is celebrating by spotlighting a new training program to teach disabled aspiring entrepreneurs how to start their own businesses. Sarah Parker Harris, associate professor of disability and human development, and Maija Renko, associate professor of managerial studies, can talk about why the trainings may be a solution for joblessness among people with disabilities.

This week UIC recognizes the contributions that business-plan competitions make toward expanding the startup sector. Following its own Concept2Venture Startup Challenge, Nancy Harvey, executive director of the UIC Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies, can comment on the importance of these pitch competitions to the region.
