Chicago’s ban on the plastic shopping bags that takes effect Aug. 1. is fraught with challenges, says a UIC retail expert. Kim Moon, UIC Business lecturer, says from a marketing point of view, the “rewards and punishments” for consumers aren’t stiff enough to move the needle to make the environment safer.

 
Reddit Revolt

Administrators of the Reddit website are considering changing a host of its content policies. The company's struggle to create a space that encourages users to speak candidly but civilly represents a larger cultural moment, says Adrienne Massanari, UIC assistant professor of communication. Massanari, author of the new book, "Participatory Culture, Community, and Play: Learning from Reddit," is available to discuss Reddit's challenges and culture.
