Uber’s creation of a drivers’ association in New York in conjunction with a major union is a big deal, according to a UIC labor expert.  Robert Bruno, professor and director of the Labor Education Program at UIC, says the solution to the industry’s growing strife is some worker representation which can stabilize the employment relationship. Failing to recognize a worker association or union only “condemns the industry to continued uncertainty,” Bruno says.

Statins and aspirin help keep blood flowing smoothly in heart bypass patients, but many do not take the recommended combination of the two medicines, according to a new study. Surgery, researchers said, is not a cure for heart disease, and the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association recommend taking both statins and aspirin, unless they are unsafe for patients. Robert DiDomenico, UIC clinical professor of pharmacy practice, can comment.

For a lot of black boys that’s a tough question -- especially in fatherless homes. The absence of a father is known to researchers to be a significant factor in the success or failure of children. UIC professors are studying how father-son relationships may improve life outcomes for black males, and can comment.
