JACSW Financial Support Request

JACSW NEED BASED FINANCIAL SUPPORT APPLICATION

A. Submission Deadline June 15, 2015

B. College Policies and Practices

1.  Students have the primary responsibility for financing their graduate education and should be prepared to do so if they do not receive financial support from the College or an external source.

2.  Applicants should read the statement of financing graduate education found on the College’s website at http://www.uic.edu/jaddams/college/programs/msw/files/Fall2013/FinancingGradEducationMSW.pdf.

3.  Persons admitted to the MSW Program should understand that the majority of financial support provided by the College is need based.   Therefore, all admitted students interested in financial support are asked to state the following:

  • what their FAFSA determined financial need is,
  • how much their student loan debt is, and
  • if they have a special situation or circumstance that has implication for financial need.

The available financial support is distributed to students based on the total of their determined need based score,  beginning with the highest score and continuing until all funds have been allocated.

All new and continuing students should note also that some financial support provided by the College is determined by the field placement obtained by students.   Normally field related awards are determined during the field placement process or by procedures spelled out in special announcements.

4.  American citizens or permanent residents admitted to the MSW Program should submit, their FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by the UIC priority deadline of March 1 if possible.

5.  International students, in their first year of graduate study, must submit to the Office of International Student Services a statement of guarantee that they have sufficient funds to cover all expenses related to their first year of graduate study.   Normally international students are not considered for need based financial support during the first year they are enrolled in the MSW Program.  They may be eligible for field based financial support.

6.  Most of the financial support provided by the College require individuals to be registered in 12 or more semester hours.   Consequently PM-Extended Study students, during the first two years of study, are not eligible for most financial support provided by the College.

During the fall and spring, PM-Extended Study students may vie for two tuition and fee waivers set aside for students enrolled in eight to eleven semester hours.   During the summer academic terms PM – Extended Study students are given priority for summer tuition and fee waivers for students enrolled in six to eleven semester hours.

7.  Need based financial support may be submitted between April 15 and June 15.  Submission of an application does not guarantee financial support will be given.   All requested information should be submitted at the same time and received no later than June 15.  Applications will be reviewed and scored as received.   Efforts will be made to announce award decisions no later than the first week of July.
