Present your research at UIC's 2nd annual Women’s Health Research Day on April 21, 2015. We invite authors to submit poster abstracts for original research in any area that focuses on women’s health or sex/gender differences, including basic science, clinical and translational research, and community and public health research. Awards will be given for best undergraduate student poster, best graduate/medical student poster, and best poster by a faculty or staff member.  In addition, two exemplary abstracts will be chosen to give oral presentations at the event.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Abstract submissions are welcome from junior and senior investigators in all areas focused on women’s health or sex/gender differences. Authors with original research, including basic science, clinical, translational, epidemiology, health behavior, prevention, community health or health services research are encouraged to apply. Interdisciplinary research projects that demonstrate broad collaboration across disciplines are highly encouraged. Abstracts will be reviewed for research originality, scientific rigor, and women’s health relevance. We welcome submissions of abstracts presented recently (past year) at local, national or international conferences, as well as abstracts of never-before presented research findings.

WHO CAN SUBMIT? Any member of the UIC community or community partners working with UIC faculty/staff/students with original research on women’s health or sex/gender differences.

ONLINE ABSTRACT SUBMISSION FORM: Abstract submissions will only be accepted via this online submission form.

DEADLINE: The deadline for receipt of abstracts is 5:00 pm on Monday, March 23, 2015. Notification of poster acceptance will be communicated to the submitting author by Tuesday, March 31. The abstracts chosen for oral presentation will also be communicated to the submitting author by March 31.

AWARDS: Recognition will be given for best posters in three categories: "undergraduate student," "graduate/medical student," and "employee" (faculty/staff/resident/fellow). Eligible investigators include undergraduate students, graduate students, medical students, research staff, clinicians, residents, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty of all levels who played a major role in the project design, conduct and analysis. Monetary awards of $200 will be given to the best poster in each category. In addition, two abstracts from among all entries will be selected by committee to deliver 15-minute oral presentations at the event. These abstract winners will also receive $200. Award recipients must be employed at UIC or be a UIC student at the time in which the award is redeemed.

POSTERS WILL BE JUDGED ON THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: (1) topic relevance (women’s health or sex/gender differences), (2) appropriateness of research design and methods, (3) relevance of study results, (4) innovation and creativity, and (5) clarity and format of poster.

OTHER GUIDELINES: Abstract information is limited to 250 words. Author information does not count toward the total characters. We strongly advise you to draft the abstract in a Word document first and then copy and paste text into the online submission form. Because of the text format of the online submission, please avoid using symbols and special characters. Abstracts must be submitted in structured format including the following sections: Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusion. Only one abstract will be accepted from a presenting author.
